Network Support Engineer (IP, Optical, Multi-Vendor)

About the role

Service Operations is looking for an experienced Network Operations Engineer based in Heredia, Costa Rica, with advanced expertise in IP networking, optical transport and multi-vendor environments. The role provides technical leadership in troubleshooting, network validation, service assurance, automation and customer support, working with customers, NOCs, engineering teams and third-party vendors to keep networks reliable and available.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on IP, optical and transport network issues
• Support customer escalations and lead major incidents
• Analyse packets, protocols and logs to find network anomalies
• Configure, validate and support multi-vendor solutions (Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, Fujitsu)
• Support implementations, migrations, expansions and optimisation
• Run software upgrades, firmware updates and hardware refreshes in lab and production
• Develop and run automated test scripts and workflows, and take part in automation initiatives
• Work with Product Engineering, Software Development, NOC Operations and vendors
• Take part in disaster recovery, business continuity and risk reduction; work in a 24x7 environment with on-call rotations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, network engineering or equivalent experience
• 5+ years supporting enterprise, carrier, service provider or data centre networks
• Experience with optical transport (DWDM, ROADM, OTN, Carrier Ethernet)
• Strong understanding of software lifecycle, maintenance and upgrade methods
• Excellent verbal and written communication and analytical skills
