Senior Software Engineer (Remote, Costa Rica)

About the role

The Customer Domain Engineering team owns the source of truth for provider organizations, locations, users and permissions, which underpins the B2B side of Allē, a loyalty platform used by tens of thousands of aesthetics practices. The role is remote, based in Costa Rica, and pays $45-55 USD per hour. It covers the user, role and organization domains, including moving accounts onto AbbVie's SAP after the acquisition.

Key responsibilities

• Own the user, role and organization domains and build and evolve the APIs and SDK contracts consumed by other teams.
• Migrate away from legacy services, moving logic from older serverless/GraphQL services into NestJS domain services without breaking dependents.
• Protect data integrity and automate lifecycles driven by SAP data (archival, transfers, backfills, reconciliations, large account migrations).
• Review code, having reviewed roughly 35-65% of the team's PRs; write RFCs and migration plans and act as the go-to person for SDKs, user APIs, data integrity and auth questions.
• Keep the platform healthy: runtime upgrades, CI hardening, test infrastructure, performance tuning.

Required profile

• Care with data: treats migrations and backfills as production changes, with a written plan, dry runs, reconciliation and a rollback path.
• Clear writing: able to produce RFCs and migration plans others can act on.
• Experience moving off legacy systems, using feature flags, fallbacks or parallel runs.
• Consumer empathy: thinks about API stability, versioning and downstream impact.
• Mentoring and reviewing, and follow-through: gets work merged or deliberately closed.

Required skills

• TypeScript and Node.js at production depth, NestJS for domain services, PostgreSQL in depth (schema, migrations, indexes, EXPLAIN ANALYZE), TypeORM.
• AWS serverless and event-driven design: Lambda, SQS (including FIFO and dead-letter queues), SNS, Parameter Store.
• REST/OpenAPI with typed SDKs and GraphQL for older services; authentication via Okta, IAM and DPoP.
• Jest with Testcontainers-backed integration tests; strong plus Temporal or another durable-workflow engine.
• Terraform, Kubernetes (Kustomize overlays, IRSA), Datadog, GitHub Actions and ArgoCD.
