Renewable Electrical Design Engineer - BESS

About the role

Ulteig and its affiliated companies are hiring a Renewable Electrical Design Engineer to support the design of utility-scale renewable projects on battery energy storage systems (BESS) and/or wind projects. The role contributes to the growth of the Renewables Lifeline Sector and works on multi-discipline teams of 2-4 people. Resumes must be submitted in English.

Key responsibilities

• Create and review electrical designs for BESS and/or wind projects, including one-line diagrams, grounding, protection schemes, low voltage auxiliary systems, equipment elevations, bills of materials, panel board and cable installation details.
• Perform electrical studies such as cable ampacity, energy loss, short-circuit analysis, lightning risk analysis, protection coordination and grounding analysis.
• Select and specify key components such as transformers, switchgear, inverters, relays and batteries.
• Work with internal teams, external contractors and equipment vendors to deliver complete, buildable designs.
• Assist with utility interconnection applications and ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, NESC and NFPA codes.
• Provide technical guidance during construction, commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Stay current with wind and BESS technologies, codes and standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in power systems; detailed design of renewable BESS and/or wind projects strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of BESS and/or wind systems, NEC and NESC requirements and construction practices strongly preferred.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal English (CEFR B2-C1) and legal authorization to work in Costa Rica.
• Hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.

Required skills

• Engineering software such as ETAP, Easypower, CYME (or CYM CAD), AutoCAD, REVIT or CDEGS is a plus.
• Ability to learn and apply new technologies.
• Self-starter, analytical, able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
