Power Generation Senior Engineer I

About the role

The SYSS Engineering Group in Latin America provides fully engineered control system solutions for power and process plants in the Americas, installing and replacing plant control systems with Emerson DCS (Delta V and Ovation) and reliability and SCADA solutions. The engineer supports regional offices such as Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and the US, working on projects with minimal direction and taking part in technical leads and commissioning activities.

Key responsibilities

• Design non-complex solutions, hardware databases, logic, graphics and datalinks, and select hardware and software with guidance
• Review application documentation for quality, accuracy and completeness, and work with project technical leaders and partners to meet requirements and deadlines
• Execute projects within quality, delivery date and budget, and communicate clearly with customers
• Lead product enhancement and solution definitions, and carry out factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, startup, loop tuning, turbine startups, advanced controls and performance solutions
• Lead implementation teams across plant processes (O&G, chemical, mining power, etc.), supervise subcontractors and remote engineering teams of 25-30 engineers, and act as site manager of a team of 10+ engineers
• Develop functional design (hardware and software), including reverse engineering in retrofit projects, and prepare implementation and commissioning plans
• Track progress, budget and risks, issue weekly reports, promote productivity tools and contribute to continuous improvement

Required profile

• Engineering degree in a related field
• 10+ years of experience in DCS or PLC/SCADA in industrial automation
• At least 6 technical lead roles on medium-size projects (over 2,000 I/O points)
• 8+ years of power industry experience, with demonstrated expertise in gas and steam turbine startup, commissioning and performance testing
• Travel time of up to 60%
• Intermediate English; Portuguese is a plus
