Full Stack Engineer - Claude Code Augmented

About the role

Uptech, a SaaS start-up building a tolling platform that processes millions of toll transactions, is hiring two hands-on engineers to build its core platform. The role is remote, based in or near San José, Costa Rica, with overlap with US Eastern business hours, and starts as a 90-day contract with the aim of converting to full time once it is working for both sides. The company states that daily, hands-on command of Claude Code and clear, professional spoken and written English are non-negotiable.

Key responsibilities

• Ship production features across backend services, APIs, data pipelines and the web frontend.
• Build and harden high-volume ingestion pipelines for duplicate and half-broken files, with idempotency, validation and reconciliation.
• Work with immutable, audit-grade records where corrections are new records, not edits.
• Write, review and test code as if it were running in production, using tests as practice.
• Use Claude Code across the full lifecycle, including project rules, skills and subagents, and verify its output before shipping.
• Investigate production issues end to end and find the root cause.

Required profile

• 4-9 years of hands-on shipping; recent, hands-on work, not leadership from a distance.
• A hard data problem you have owned, such as high-volume data, pipelines or financial-grade accuracy.
• Strong technical fundamentals: data integrity, handling money correctly, authentication and access control, and concurrency.
• Ownership and speed to ramp up, with self-starter attitude and great communication.

Required skills

• Daily fluency with Claude Code, including skills, subagents, MCP integrations or agent workflows.
• Nice to have: Go, Python or TypeScript/React, PostgreSQL, AWS or Azure, event-driven systems, startup experience in a SaaS environment, and mentoring experience.

Hiring process: a short call with the People & Culture Manager, a live Claude Code assessment, an interview with the Engineering Manager and VP of Technology, then an offer. The role is full time and may move to a hybrid arrangement in 2027.
