Database Administrator

About the role

Join Akamai’s Database Support team to manage and optimise mission‑critical databases across a global infrastructure. You will work with Oracle and SQL Server platforms, ensuring high availability, performance and reliability for cloud‑based services.

Key responsibilities

• Perform day‑to‑day Oracle database operations, including user management, access provisioning and issue resolution.
• Support and maintain Oracle RAC environments on Exadata Cloud (ExaCC), handling both multitenant and non‑multitenant databases.
• Monitor OEM alerts, resolve incidents, conduct routine health checks and apply performance optimisations.
• Execute database refreshes using Oracle Data Pump and RMAN, and manage backup/restore processes.
• Conduct health checks and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server environments, including Always On Availability Groups and Mirroring.
• Automate routine tasks and develop clear Standard Operating Procedures for the team.
• Provide 24/5 rotational on‑call support and document operational procedures.

Required profile

• High school diploma or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in database operations.
• Strong expertise in Oracle database administration (RAC, OEM, RMAN, Data Pump, Data Guard).
• Experience managing SQL Server maintenance plans, backups, restores, TDE, CDC and event‑driven alerts.
• Good understanding of ITIL processes for incident, problem and change management.
• Familiarity with GG microservices, Exadata Cloud, MySQL or PostgreSQL is a plus.
