Senior Data Scientist

About the role

Join Akamai’s Global Web Security group to develop innovative machine‑learning models that protect major internet brands from application security threats. As a senior data scientist you will work closely with product and engineering teams to improve detection accuracy and shape security strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze large datasets to differentiate legitimate traffic from fraudulent activity.
• Design, implement, and maintain detection rules and machine‑learning models for security products.
• Improve data collection, manipulation, and presentation pipelines in a production‑ready environment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across a distributed infrastructure.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience with a high‑school diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional background.
• Proven experience working with large datasets using SQL, Spark, and Python.
• Strong understanding of probability, statistics, and machine‑learning algorithms.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Practical knowledge of application‑security tools such as bot detection or fraud prevention.
• Familiarity with Internet protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, TLS/SSL).
