Buyer II – Procurement Sourcing Specialist

About the role

This position is part of Thermo Fisher Scientific's Procurement Excellence Buy Desk and focuses on developing and executing sourcing strategies for direct‑materials categories. The role handles spot buys, sourcing events, and project‑related activities while supporting internal customers across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Execute one‑time or low‑complexity sourcing requests for direct‑materials spend under $1M per annum.
• Capture and analyse procurement data using spend analytics tools.
• Collaborate with the Market Intelligence team to identify potential suppliers.
• Conduct basic cost, scenario and benchmarking analyses to inform sourcing decisions.
• Develop and manage RFPs, ensuring clear requirement documentation.
• Negotiate contract terms and pricing, recording annual P&L savings.
• Mentor junior sourcing generalists on category‑specific requirements.

Required profile

• 3+ years of procurement experience within direct‑materials categories.
• Hands‑on experience with the full sourcing process, vendor management and contract negotiations.
• Proven ability to work independently, meet deadlines and deliver strong internal customer service.
• Leadership mindset with a desire to coach junior team members.
• Entrepreneurial attitude and flexibility to develop expertise across multiple categories such as lab supplies, mechanical, packaging or chemicals.
