Site Reliability Engineer II

About the role

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer II to join Akamai’s Compute reliability team. You will work across multiple squads to design, automate and operate large‑scale distributed systems that power our edge and cloud services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain automated tools and scripts to improve system reliability, deployment pipelines and incident response.
• Enhance monitoring and alerting to accelerate error detection and remediation for our virtualization platform.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, lead root‑cause analysis and restore service‑impacting incidents.
• Contribute to capacity planning, autoscaling and workload scheduling for AI compute infrastructure.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices across the department.

Required profile

• At least 2 years of experience in a SysAdmin, DevOps or SRE role working with large‑scale distributed systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Proven ability to define SLOs and work with observability tools.
• Accountability for reliability and a collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Linux/Unix system administration.
• Kubernetes and large‑scale container orchestration.
• Programming in Python or Go.
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform, SaltStack or Ansible.
• Monitoring with Prometheus, Grafana and distributed tracing.
