Jr. Software Systems Engineer

About the role

This junior position is part of HPE's Software Systems Engineering team, focusing on the design, development, and maintenance of software that runs on new and existing ASICs. The role blends system‑level programming with close collaboration with hardware engineers to ensure seamless hardware‑software integration. It follows a hybrid work model, requiring two days per week on‑site at an HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance system software components such as operating systems, networking utilities, databases, development tools, and diagnostic applications.
• Analyze designs, create test plans, execute validation activities, and document results for assigned software modules.
• Identify, debug, and resolve software defects, recommending corrective actions and improvements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including external development partners, to communicate status and resolve technical issues.
• Design, implement, and maintain APIs and hardware abstraction layers (HAL) that enable efficient interaction between software and ASIC hardware.
• Support performance‑optimization initiatives for ASICs in network‑switching environments.
• Develop, test, and document SDK components, providing technical support and documentation for SDK users.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong interest in low‑level software development and hardware integration.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly.
