Software Engineering Intern

About the role

Moody's is hiring a Software Engineering Intern in Heredia, Costa Rica, within its Data Estate division of Moody's Analytics. The internship starts in March 2027 and gives hands-on exposure to real-time data processing and quality assurance engineering in a mission-critical software environment. Candidates who do not meet every requirement are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Gain exposure to the software engineering lifecycle, focusing on the ingestion, processing and testing of real-time news feeds.
• Work with engineering team members to understand feed handler development workflows, with emphasis on quality assurance monitoring and automation.
• Learn, apply and contribute to existing testing frameworks and automation procedures.
• Support the migration of legacy C code to Python, including implementing new features and improving existing functionality.
• Help enhance and automate testing workflows to improve efficiency, coverage and reliability.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field, ideally graduating in 2028.
• Clear written and verbal communication, able to work with both technical and non-technical teams.
• Self-motivated, curious and able to solve problems independently.
• Interest in AI and willingness to learn about responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethics.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience or strong academic exposure to Python, C++ or C.
• Foundational understanding of cloud technologies and familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and command-line tools.
• Understanding of software engineering processes and agile development.
• Basic understanding of AI concepts.
• Preferred: remote Linux experience, regression and integration testing, Git, QA automation frameworks, JSON/XML, SQL, cloud object storage (AWS S3 or GCS), AI-assisted development tools, and prior software development coursework.
