Software Engineering Intern - Data Science

About the role

Moody's is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join its Data Solutions division, which brings together a large catalog of data to help businesses assess risks and opportunities. The intern will gain hands-on exposure to the end-to-end stages of data science needed to process and analyze real-time news for the company's global customers. The internship starts in March 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Support news ingestion, normalization and data cleaning pipelines so that downstream analytics receive high-quality input.
• Explore news datasets to identify trends, patterns and insights.
• Assist with Named Entity Recognition and Entity Linking in news stories to improve content intelligence.
• Contribute to news classification, including research and development of new categorization models.
• Help build automated summarization and clustering solutions, and derive insights from large volumes of news content.
• Work in an agile team, taking part in sprint planning, standups and retrospectives.
• Maintain and document software components, support automated deployment and testing, and assist with Docker and Kubernetes containerization and cluster management.
• Build and maintain Databricks notebooks and pipelines for scalable data processing.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Financial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field; ideal graduation year 2028.
• Basic understanding of AI concepts and interest in responsible AI practices.
• Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently, with clear communication of technical concepts.

Required skills

• Python programming, including data processing, scripting and software development; basic Bash scripting.
• Preferred: Linux, Git, SQL, C++, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch, Postman, Docker, Kubernetes, Databricks, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or Azure Pipelines, and graph databases.
