Senior Software Engineer – Legacy System Modernization

About the role

Harris is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to maintain, stabilize, and modernize a critical legacy platform built on Visual Basic 6, Classic ASP, and Oracle. You will work hands‑on with an existing complex system while driving its evolution toward modern APIs, micro‑services, and new front‑ends.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot the VB6/Classic ASP legacy system, analyzing long‑standing business logic and dependencies.
• Identify performance risks, architectural limitations, and improve code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
• Design and implement modernization initiatives such as building APIs, creating micro‑services, and developing new front‑ends.
• Work with Oracle databases and support migration to PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with product, business, and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Use GitHub for version control, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.
• Operate within Microsoft Azure cloud services and apply AI‑assisted development tools.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience in hybrid modern‑legacy environments.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and ability to navigate undocumented codebases.
• Proactive, curious, and comfortable working with imperfect, evolving systems.
• Excellent communication and problem‑ownership mindset.
