Senior Software Developer – Payment Systems

About the role

The Senior Software Developer (Payment Systems) will design, build and maintain a PCI‑compliant donor compensation platform, delivering secure payment features and supporting platform modernization.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop payment‑processing features, transaction management, account provisioning and reporting, integrating with external processors via RESTful APIs.
• Write clean, well‑tested, documented code following secure development practices, perform code reviews and implement security controls such as encryption and tokenization.
• Develop unit, integration and regression test suites, resolve production defects, and participate in on‑call rotation for payment incidents.
• Contribute to Agile ceremonies, technical documentation, runbooks and continuous improvement of the platform.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend or full‑stack development experience, recent hands‑on engineering work.
• Experience with payment or financial transaction systems, including ACH, prepaid card APIs and payment gateway integrations.
• Familiarity with regulated environments (PCI DSS, HIPAA) and willingness to build domain knowledge.
• Proven ability to work in Agile/Scrum teams using tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Required skills

• REST and GraphQL API design and consumption.
• AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) with acceptable‑use standards.
• Feature‑flag platforms (LaunchDarkly, Split, Unleash) and progressive delivery.
• Cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and CI/CD pipeline tools.
• Relational and non‑relational databases, data modeling and transaction management.
• Event‑driven architecture and messaging (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ) – preferred.
• Integration middleware such as MuleSoft – preferred.
