Senior Buyer – Procurement

About the role

Abbott’s Electrophysiology division in Alajuela, Costa Rica is seeking a Senior Buyer to lead the procurement of materials, services and supplies that support the manufacturing of advanced heart‑disease treatments. The role combines strategic sourcing, supplier management and data‑driven decision making to ensure cost‑effective, high‑quality supply for the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Lead negotiations and manage long‑term contracts with key suppliers, acting as the primary point of contact.
• Coordinate purchasing activities and delivery schedules in alignment with demand, planning and logistics teams.
• Monitor supplier performance, drive corrective actions and promote continuous improvement.
• Analyze procurement data, generate insights and implement best‑practice processes for operational efficiency and new product introductions.
• Identify and implement alternative supply sources to meet quality and quantity requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive purchasing or commodity‑management experience.
• At least 3 years using purchasing/commodity‑management software.
• Proven ability to work in a highly matrixed, geographically diverse environment.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to make data‑driven decisions.
