Safety Manager – Liberia, Costa Rica

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead the Occupational Health and Safety strategy for our manufacturing site in Liberia, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The role is hands‑on and focuses on building a strong safety culture while driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and continuously improve the site OHS Management System in line with ISO 45001, corporate standards and local regulations.
• Develop and execute the annual OHS plan, conduct risk assessments and manage corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and corporate safety requirements.
• Lead incident investigations, injury‑prevention initiatives and emergency preparedness programs.
• Develop, monitor and analyse safety KPIs, implementing improvement strategies.
• Conduct internal audits and prepare for external audits.
• Manage the safety budget and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
• Provide safety training and coaching for employees, contractors and leaders.
• Partner with plant leadership to promote a strong safety culture.
• Oversee fire prevention, contractor safety, machinery safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene and other critical programs.
• Lead and develop a team of safety professionals.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related technical field.
• Minimum 7 years of OHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven leadership experience managing technical or safety teams.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and OHS Management Systems.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
