Remote Rust Backend Developer (Contract)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Rust backend developer to join a remote, contract‑based team that builds high‑performance APIs and collaborates with AI research. You will design, implement and continuously improve REST and GraphQL services while testing cutting‑edge AI models.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs.
• Implement robust data validation, error handling and security best practices.
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning and schema changes.
• Test AI‑powered models in the Cursor environment and provide detailed incident reports.
• Participate in intensive 4‑day testing bursts to evaluate AI impact on coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team via Slack, sharing findings and improvement proposals.
• Complete post‑burst surveys delivering insights on model performance and developer experience.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear incident and bug reporting.
• Proven ability to thrive in fast‑paced, confidential, collaborative remote settings.
• Visible contributions to open‑source projects are a plus.

Required skills

• Rust programming language.
• Building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Database migrations, performance tuning and schema design.
• Backend data validation, error handling and API security.
• Experience with AI coding tools, preferably Cursor.
