Employee Relations Specialist

About the role

Join Lonza’s Employee Relations team in San Jose, Costa Rica and support a fair, respectful, and compliant workplace for U.S. operations. You will manage employee‑relations cases, lead investigations, and partner with cross‑functional stakeholders to improve the employee experience.

Key responsibilities

• Manage employee‑relations cases from intake through resolution, ensuring timely and consistent outcomes.
• Conduct workplace investigations, including fact‑finding, interviews, evidence review, and documentation.
• Partner with HR Business Partners, managers, Legal, and Ethics & Compliance to assess risk and determine appropriate actions.
• Provide guidance and coaching to managers and employees on policies, disciplinary matters, and workplace concerns.
• Maintain accurate, confidential, audit‑ready case documentation in line with governance standards.
• Analyze case trends to identify risks and support proactive people strategies.
• Contribute to process improvements, reporting initiatives, and adoption of ER technologies and AI tools.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Employee Relations, HR investigations, or a related field supporting U.S. employees.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. employment laws (EEO, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, retaliation).
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Spanish.
• Experience in a multinational, matrixed, or shared‑services environment is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Law, or a related field.
