Controller – Vacation Rental Finance (US Experience)

About the role
As a Controller at Howard Financial, you will ensure the financial integrity of a portfolio of vacation‑rental clients, bridging day‑to‑day bookkeeping and executive‑level strategy. You will work with short‑term‑rental accounting challenges such as trust accounting, owner statements and merchant‑processing reconciliations.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the full month‑end close process for multiple STR clients, delivering accurate Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets.
- Oversee reconciliation of guest payments, security deposits and cleaning fees; generate owner statements and process distributions on time.
- Track and report industry‑specific KPIs such as RevPAR, ADR and Occupancy rates to provide actionable insights.
- Review work performed by staff accountants and bookkeepers to ensure compliance with US GAAP and client SOPs.
- Manage data flow between Property Management Systems (Guesty, Hostaway, Streamline) and accounting platforms (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client financial inquiries, explaining variances during monthly reviews.
Required profile
- At least 4 years of experience as an Accountant or Senior Accountant in the US Vacation Rental / Short‑Term Rental industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP.
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, data cleaning).
- Exceptional written and verbal English proficiency (C1/C2 level).
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, growth‑focused environment.
