Backup Engineer

About the role

Data protection is vital at Thermo Fisher Scientific. As a Backup Engineer you will define and lead backup strategies, maintain tools, and collaborate with business partners to ensure critical systems are protected.

Key responsibilities

• Act as subject‑matter expert on backup projects, including discovery, assessments, design, documentation and pricing.
• Mentor and train team members on backup technologies and processes.
• Develop, install, configure, and document backup solutions across a multi‑site, multi‑vendor environment.
• Participate in recovery testing, audits and on‑call support following a “follow‑the‑sun” model.
• Communicate root causes of outages, resolve incidents, and implement change requests within defined guidelines.
• Maintain service level commitments and update knowledge‑base documentation.

Required profile

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field.
• 5+ years of experience with data protection hardware/software.
• 2‑4 years of experience with hypervisors, Windows and Linux operating systems, and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
• Experience in regulated environments is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills in English.
