Astronomer Quality Assurance Lead (Remote)

About the role

This remote, hourly contractor position involves leading quality assurance for astronomy and astrophysics AI training projects. You will ensure scientific accuracy, consistency, and high‑quality output across all contributors.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee quality, consistency, and trainer performance for AI‑generated astronomy content.
• Review content and QA work against detailed rubrics, providing precise written feedback.
• Assess scientific accuracy, physical reasoning, mathematical correctness, terminology, units, observational context, clarity, and formatting.
• Identify recurring quality issues, communicate updates to trainers and QAs, and support onboarding.
• Maintain documentation and help reactivate contributors who are not consistently active.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, Space Science, Planetary Science, Cosmology, or a closely related field.
• Strong command of English for following guidelines, team communication, and written feedback.
• 3+ years of experience in astronomy/astrophysics research, teaching, science communication, academic review, data analysis, or observatory work.
• Deep understanding of celestial mechanics, stellar evolution, galaxies, cosmology, electromagnetic radiation, spectroscopy, planetary systems, black holes, and scientific uncertainty.
• Ability to evaluate content against detailed rubrics and spot issues such as incorrect assumptions, wrong units, flawed calculations, hallucinated facts, or misleading explanations.
