Software Engineering (Systems) Intern

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is looking for a Software Engineering (Systems) Intern in Heredia, Costa Rica. The role is designed as onsite, with the expectation that you will primarily work from an HPE office. It is open to students or recent graduates pursuing a degree in any field, and includes internships, research roles and other program-related opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Support senior team members on assigned technical projects as determined by the business unit.
• Help identify and troubleshoot technical issues, offering support and suggesting solutions.
• Assist with maintaining and updating hardware, software and other technical systems.
• Attend team meetings, learn project methodologies and collaborate with colleagues.
• Learn about new technologies and methodologies relevant to the work.
• Complete tasks assigned by a supervisor in a timely and efficient manner.
• Take part in periodic reviews to share updates and incorporate feedback on projects and initiatives.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related technical field.
• University students actively enrolled, typically working during school breaks and returning to their studies; part-time internships during the school year may be possible in some countries.

Required skills

• Familiarity with programming languages or technical tools relevant to the role.
• Understanding of software system design tools and programming languages; C or Rust is a plus.
• Experience developing in Linux environments, including familiarity with the Linux kernel and system-level programming, is a plus.
• Basic understanding of data structures, algorithms and software design principles.
• Understanding of software debugging techniques and tools.
