Data Platform Engineer

About the role

Lumenalta is looking for an experienced Data Platform Engineer with deep expertise in Databricks and Unity Catalog. You will help clients build modern lakehouse platforms by establishing trusted, well‑governed data foundations that support analytics and AI use cases.

Key responsibilities

• Own data governance in Databricks through Unity Catalog, covering access control, cataloging, auditing, lineage, data quality, business semantics, cost controls, and data sharing.
• Design and implement security models, including catalog, schema, row‑level and column‑level permissions.
• Build and maintain data‑quality frameworks using Delta Live Tables expectations and constraints.
• Certify “gold‑standard” tables and define production‑ready datasets across the lakehouse.
• Define and maintain metadata, glossaries, and documentation to support AI and natural‑language query systems.
• Implement lineage tracking and auditing for pipelines and consumption layers.
• Manage compute and storage cost controls within Databricks.
• Collaborate with data engineers, AI/ML teams, and business stakeholders to embed governance throughout the platform.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with Databricks and Unity Catalog.
• Proven ability to build governance frameworks covering access control, data quality, lineage, cataloging, and metadata.
• Comfort working across data pipelines, ML, and AI workloads with enough AI literacy to support semantic layers for LLM/AI applications.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data‑pipeline development.
• Experience with Delta Lake architecture is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
