Payroll & Benefits Coordinator (Entry-Level)

About the role

We are looking for a highly organized, detail‑oriented Payroll & Benefits Coordinator to join our team in Costa Rica. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Total Rewards, you will gain hands‑on experience across payroll processing, benefits administration and leave management, working closely with Finance and People Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with bi‑weekly payroll processing, ensuring accurate hours, deductions and tax withholdings.
• Review and verify timesheets, follow up on discrepancies with employees and managers.
• Enter data for new hires, terminations, salary changes and direct‑deposit updates in the HRIS/payroll system.
• Support day‑to‑day benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance) and help onboard new hires into benefits platforms.
• Coordinate the annual Open Enrollment period and respond to employee inquiries about coverage and claims.
• Administer leave programs such as FMLA, disability, parental leave and PTO, maintaining confidential records.
• Assist with compliance tasks, audits and reporting as directed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 0–2 years of exposure to HR, payroll or accounting.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, especially Excel/Sheets and VLOOKUP formulas.
• Familiarity with HRIS/payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, Paylocity or BambooHR.
