Executive Pastry Chef

About the role

The Executive Pastry Chef is accountable for the overall success of daily pastry operations at a Ritz-Carlton property in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The role combines hands-on baking and decorating with leading the staff to produce consistent, high-quality pastries, improving guest and employee satisfaction while keeping the operating budget under control. It is a full-time management position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the pastry teams, including cooks and workers, and run pastry shift operations
• Create new pastry items and assist the Executive Chef with pastry menu development
• Maintain food handling, storage and sanitation standards, and ensure staff hold the required certifications
• Manage inventory, purchase supplies within budget and support portion and waste controls
• Train staff on menu items, safety procedures and on-the-job skills, and mentor and coach employees
• Handle guest complaints, gather feedback and focus on continuous improvement
• Represent the property in media events and facilitate pastry classes for customers and the community

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, or a 2-year degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management or a related field
• 4 years of culinary, food and beverage or related experience, or 2 years with a degree
• Fluent spoken and written English and Spanish, able to communicate with guests, associates, vendors and senior leadership in both languages
