Molding Engineer

About the role

The Molding Engineer will develop, maintain, and optimize injection molding processes for a medical‑device manufacturing environment in Alajuela. The role collaborates with all departments to ensure successful qualification activities, supports production by monitoring machine performance, scrap rates, and tooling wear, and mentors molding technicians and operators.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement robust molding processes using scientific molding techniques.
• Propose and execute modifications to molds, equipment, and processes to boost productivity and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot molding, material, and manufacturing issues, working with internal and external resources.
• Develop and apply process controls, machinery improvements, and SMED techniques to reduce changeover time.
• Create and update molding instructions to standardize production.
• Analyze rejects, adjust parameters, and recommend tooling changes based on failure modes.
• Maintain tooling inventory and determine reorder points.
• Lead root‑cause analysis, provide technical support, and train molding technicians.
• Report weekly on molding technician working hours and drive continuous improvement proposals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Manufacturing.
• 3–5 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, preferably in medical‑device production.
• Experience with GMP and ISO 13485 environments is a plus.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

• Injection molding process development and validation.
• Scientific molding and cold‑runner molding techniques.
• Root‑cause analysis and systematic troubleshooting.
• SMED (Single‑Minute Exchange of Die) methodology.
• Tooling wear evaluation and equipment modification.
• Data analysis for process improvement.
