Buyer II – Strategic Sourcing for Direct Materials

About the role

The Buyer II will support Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Procurement Excellence Buy Desk by developing and executing sourcing strategies for direct‑materials categories. This role focuses on one‑time and low‑complexity purchases, helping the company secure high‑quality suppliers while delivering cost savings.

Key responsibilities

• Execute spot buys and low‑complexity sourcing events for direct materials.
• Gather and analyse spend data using procurement analytics tools.
• Collaborate with the Market Intelligence team to identify potential suppliers.
• Conduct basic cost and scenario analyses to evaluate supplier bids.
• Develop and issue RFPs for spend under $1 M per annum.
• Translate stakeholder requirements into clear RFPs and contracts.
• Negotiate contract terms and pricing, recording annual P&L savings.
• Mentor junior sourcing generalists on category‑specific processes.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of procurement experience in direct‑materials categories.
• Proven ability to manage end‑to‑end sourcing cycles and vendor negotiations.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience interpreting spend data.
• Self‑starter who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment.
• Excellent customer‑service orientation for internal stakeholders.
