Software Engineer II – Frontend for Crypto Trading Platform

About the role

Kraken is looking for a mid‑level Frontend Engineer to join the Pro team, which builds and maintains Kraken’s flagship real‑time trading web application. You will work on a high‑performance React codebase that powers spot, margin, futures, equities and other crypto products for professional traders worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain features in a large, multi‑product React web application.
• Own end‑to‑end performance: profile, measure, and optimise real‑time UI updates such as order books, charts, and order forms.
• Build and evolve the WebSocket and Web Worker layers that deliver live market data, balances, positions, and order updates.
• Leverage large language models (LLMs) to accelerate development and automate repetitive tasks.
• Set high‑quality code standards through reviews, mentorship, and constructive feedback.
• Contribute to technical strategy around architecture, data flow, state management, and shared component libraries.
• Implement observability for shipped features using tools like Sentry, Mixpanel, and structured logging.

Required profile

• Strong experience building real‑time, data‑intensive web applications.
• Proficiency with TypeScript and React in a distributed, remote team.
• Demonstrated ability to optimise performance under heavy WebSocket traffic.
• Comfort with debugging, profiling, and instrumenting code for reliability.
• Willingness to mentor peers and contribute to code‑review processes.
