Software Engineer, AI

About the role

Backblaze is looking for a Software Engineer, AI to help build and scale server‑side APIs that power our B2 Cloud Storage platform. You will work with AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate implementation while ensuring security, performance, and a great developer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Use AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Antigravity) to prototype and validate code quickly.
• Design, implement, and maintain high‑throughput APIs for authentication, backup management, and data restoration.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and Support to align backend features with real customer workflows.
• Build support tooling that helps diagnose and resolve issues at scale.
• Maintain rigorous testing, documentation, and reproducibility standards for all code and open‑source assets.

Required profile

• 2+ years of backend software engineering experience serving millions of users.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python, Java, TypeScript, Go, etc.) and ability to learn new languages quickly.
• Practical understanding of AI workflows such as data ingestion, preprocessing, inference, and agent orchestration.
• Experience with large‑scale APIs, distributed storage, and production‑grade coding habits (testing, documentation, security).
• Customer‑focused mindset and strong written communication skills.
