Site Reliability Engineer

About the role

Backcountry’s online platform is the core of its customer experience. As a Site Reliability Engineer you will ensure the platform remains reliable, performant and scalable across a multi‑cloud environment. You will work closely with software engineering, DevOps and IT operations teams, driving automation and observability.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and improve service resiliency, performance tuning and system architecture.
• Lead incident response, conduct post‑mortems and ensure systematic fixes.
• Use AI‑assisted tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, MCP agents) to investigate issues, automate tasks and ship code changes.
• Reduce operational toil by building automation and infrastructure as code.
• Collaborate with engineers and architects to adopt best practices for current and future workloads.
• Monitor health, capacity and observability (metrics, logs, traces, profiles) and define SLI/SLO targets.
• Participate in FinOps initiatives, capacity planning and cloud discount strategies for GCP and AWS.
• Take part in the on‑call rotation for the SRE team.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience supporting containerised production services, preferably with Kubernetes.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK or Ansible.
• Strong background operating in Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS; multi‑cloud exposure to Azure is a plus.
• Ability to diagnose and fix issues in both infrastructure and application code.
• Proficiency with AI‑assisted coding tools and MCP‑based agents.
