Senior Software Engineer – Legacy System Modernization

About the role

Harris is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to maintain, stabilize, and modernize a critical legacy platform built on Visual Basic 6, Classic ASP, and Oracle. You will work hands‑on with a mature, complex system while driving its evolution toward modern architecture, including APIs, microservices, and new front‑ends.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and stabilize the existing VB6/Classic ASP application.
• Analyze long‑standing business logic and identify performance, risk, and architectural issues.
• Design and implement modernization initiatives such as API layers, microservices, and replacement front‑ends.
• Work with Oracle databases, support existing packages, and prepare for migration to PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with product, business, and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Use GitHub for version control, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
• Leverage Microsoft Azure services and AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate development and troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Strong technical background with hands‑on experience in legacy VB6 and Classic ASP environments.
• Proactive, curious, and comfortable navigating imperfect, complex systems.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience driving modernization efforts and improving code quality.
