Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer - Capacity Planning
TD SYNNEX Multi-Country Area (English) · San Jose
Job description
About the role
TD SYNNEX is seeking a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer focused on capacity and demand planning across data centers and public cloud. The role combines practical infrastructure experience with analytical thinking and strong internal customer relationships to turn future demand into clear capacity models, options and timely decisions. It is a planning role, not a general delivery or ticket-queue role.
Key responsibilities
- Build trusted relationships with internal customers and take demand intake, linking delivery plans, workload changes and business growth to infrastructure needs.
- Develop headroom, runway, growth and scenario models for data center and public cloud capacity, documenting assumptions, uncertainty and dependencies.
- Validate sizing against production evidence, peak demand, failover conditions and performance requirements, accounting for hardware lifecycle, procurement lead times, cloud quotas and regional availability.
- Run a leadership-sponsored planning cadence, maintain analytical inputs and escalate threshold crossings for review.
- Help drive FinOps discussions with existing FinOps engineers: consumption, demand, capacity and cost conversations, and consumption and spend forecast scenarios.
- Partner on rightsizing, reclamation, total cost of ownership, workload placement and commitment analysis, validating savings against resilience and performance needs.
Required profile
- Five or more years of practical infrastructure engineering or operations experience, with the depth and independent judgment of a senior engineer; operations experience is welcomed.
- Strong communication and collaboration across technical and business teams in a global environment, with at least four hours of daily overlap with the US Eastern business day.
- Ability to explain how resources, bottlenecks, failure modes and workload behavior affect usable capacity, and to separate evidence, assumptions, uncertainty and risks in forecasts.
Required skills
- Understanding of virtualization, compute, operating systems, storage (IOPS, latency, throughput), networks and resilience.
- Experience with VMware or Nutanix and Windows or Linux is relevant; specific vendors are not required.
- Interpreting observability and time-series data, assessing public cloud capacity constraints and building demand forecasts with Excel, SQL, Python or equivalent tools.
- Nice to have: FinOps experience or certification, automation for telemetry and analysis, and Terraform, Ansible, Git, CI/CD or Kubernetes.
What we offer
- Elective benefits tailored to your country.
- Formal leadership and professional development programs and on-demand courses.
- Well-being seminars, events and a global Life Empowerment Assistance Program.
- Inclusive communities, business resource groups and onboarding networking within the first 30 days.
