Senior Accounting Analyst

About the role

A temporary contract position (7 months, Monday to Friday, 8-5) in Cartago, Costa Rica, for a Senior Accounting Analyst. The role provides advice, guidance, analysis and reporting on financial information, working closely with business leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret complex monthly financial results to identify issues and recommend course corrections
• Analyze weekly and monthly trends (e.g. expenses, fringe benefits) with business leaders to update quarterly forecasts and budgets
• Advise business leaders on the financial impact of proposed process changes
• Train, coach and give feedback to lower-level team members
• Draw conclusions from trend reports, synthesize information and present findings to management
• Assess system capabilities and process efficiencies and recommend improvements
• Prepare and process month-end journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and reports, and prepare timely month-end closing including statutory annual reports
• Prepare, file and process annual tax declarations (VAT, income, sales and local taxes)
• Ensure compliance with regulations such as the Sunshine Act, SOX, GAAP, SEC and IRS, and explain findings to internal and external auditors
• May take part in or lead process improvement projects

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, graduated
• 5 years of previous related experience in general accounting, forecasting, planning or expense analysis
• Experience in an international company preferred
• Substantial understanding of international accounting principles (US GAAP, IFRS) and SOX
• Advanced English (B2+, 85-90%)
• Ability to handle confidential information discreetly, pay strict attention to detail and manage competing priorities

Required skills

• MS Office Suite, advanced Excel and related financial systems
• ERP experience (e.g. JDE, Oracle, SAP) preferred
