Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will lead daily accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and maintain compliance with Costa Rican tax and regulatory standards. This position supports strategic financial planning and provides reliable data for business decisions while safeguarding the integrity of the organization’s financial information.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, bank and intercompany reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local regulations.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end closing processes, producing supporting documentation and reconciliations.
• Oversee tax compliance, including VAT filings, electronic invoicing and statutory reporting.
• Coordinate payment processing, supplier payments, employee reimbursements and banking transactions.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and addressing audit findings.
• Produce financial forecasts, analyses and reports to aid business decision‑making.
• Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies and applicable regulations.
• Assist with consolidation, project accounting, budgeting and cost allocation across multiple entities.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, systems and workflows.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Costa Rican tax regulations and statutory reporting.
• Proven experience with month‑end/year‑end close, audits, tax compliance and internal controls.
• Advanced proficiency with SAP (or a comparable ERP system) and Microsoft Excel.
• Intermediate English proficiency.
• Experience in multinational, NGO or donor‑funded environments is a plus.
