Part-Time Instructor - Concepts of Database Systems

About the role

Texas Tech University - Costa Rica is looking for a part-time instructor to teach CS 4354: Concepts of Database Systems during the Spring 2027 semester. The university seeks a highly qualified, student-centered educator with expertise in database systems and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate computer science education.

The course gives students a comprehensive introduction to database systems, covering design, implementation and management, including relational databases, SQL, entity-relationship modeling, normalization, query processing and an introduction to NoSQL systems.

Key responsibilities

• Teach one section of CS 4354
• Prepare and deliver engaging lectures and learning activities
• Develop and grade assignments, examinations and projects
• Mentor and support students throughout the semester
• Maintain regular communication with students and university administration
• Submit grades and course documentation according to university policy
• Use the university learning management system and instructional technologies

Required profile

• Master's degree (M.S. or equivalent) in Computer Science or a closely related field; a Ph.D. is preferred
• Demonstrated expertise in database systems and related technologies
• Excellent command of English, with strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to teach relational data models, relational algebra, SQL, ER modeling, database design, normalization and NoSQL databases in English
• Preferred: prior university-level teaching experience, industry experience in database design, development, administration or data management, experience with modern database platforms and cloud technologies, and experience supervising student projects
