Mid Data Engineer

About the role

Coforge is hiring a mid-level Data Engineer in San José, Costa Rica, on a hybrid basis of 2-3 days per week on site. The role covers building and operating ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling in Snowflake and MongoDB, and delivering reliable data products together with analytics and product teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest AI Assistant, DevOps, API, database, event and log data into Snowflake.
• Build and maintain dbt data models, tests and documentation, design Snowflake staging, core and mart layers and optimize performance and cost.
• Manage MongoDB collections, schemas, indexes, aggregation pipelines and change streams, integrating MongoDB with the analytics layer.
• Implement data observability, quality checks, lineage, security controls, monitoring, CI/CD and production operations, partnering with analytics and product teams.

Required profile

• Hands-on experience designing and developing scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Strong Snowflake experience, including data modeling, dimensional/star schemas, query tuning and performance optimization.
• Hands-on dbt experience for modeling, testing and documentation.
• Experience with MongoDB and integrating data from APIs, databases, event sources, logs and DevOps platforms.
• Knowledge of data observability, quality validation, lineage tracking, monitoring and alerting.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git, infrastructure as code and Dev/QA/Prod environments.
• Knowledge of data security practices such as RBAC, masking, encryption and audit controls.
• Experience using generative AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Codex, Claude Code, Cursor) and validating their outputs through testing.

Preferred skills

• Experience with data generated by AI development assistants such as Cursor, Copilot, Devin.
• Familiarity with Jenkins, SonarQube, Git and Jira.
• Supporting incident triage, root cause analysis and runbook creation for data platforms.
• Translating business and delivery requirements into data products, analytics and dashboards.
