Junior Systems Administrator (Remote, Contract)

About the role

SweetRush is looking for a Junior Systems Administrator to join its remote‑first IT team. This freelance position supports the company’s global learning‑development platform by maintaining servers, networks, and end‑user devices while providing desktop support to staff across time zones.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain Windows and Linux servers, workstations and network equipment.
• Create SourceFile Packages and set up SVN repository folders for the PM/PdM team.
• Apply security patches to servers and software twice daily, using automation scripts where possible.
• Provide first‑line technical support, troubleshoot hardware and software issues for end‑users.
• Monitor system performance, execute upgrades and manage backup and recovery processes.
• Administer user accounts, permissions and access controls.
• Document IT procedures and keep an up‑to‑date inventory of hardware and software assets.

Required profile

• Basic experience with server and workstation support under senior guidance.
• Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux fundamentals.
• Understanding of core networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VPN.
• Experience with source‑control tools, specifically SVN, and ability to follow documented packaging procedures.
• Ability to work remotely, maintain a reliable internet connection and be available during agreed working hours.
