Insurance Authorization Agent

About the role

The Insurance Authorization Agent ensures timely insurance verification and pre‑certification for inpatient and outpatient services. You will interact with patients, physicians and payers to confirm coverage, collect cost‑share and resolve authorization issues.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑registration insurance verification 3‑5 days before service and within 24 hours for short‑notice notifications.
• Enter benefits and pre‑certification data in Meditech and record results in the approved format.
• Calculate patient cost‑share, collect payments by phone and arrange payment plans.
• Contact patients to confirm appointments, obtain missing demographics and provide cost‑share information.
• Research patient visit history to ensure compliance with payer‑specific windows and follow up on walk‑in admissions.

Required profile

• High school diploma and at least 1 year of customer service or back‑office experience.
• Fluent in English and Spanish (oral and written, B2+ level).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Meditech health information system.
• Experience using OnBase document management for retention of questionnaires and authorizations.
