Direct Materials Purchasing Manager – Procurement Leader

About the role

The Direct Materials Purchasing Manager supports Johnson & Johnson’s fast‑growing Electrophysiology business. The role oversees procurement of materials and components for both internal manufacturing and external partners, ensuring optimal inventory levels and high service performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a purchasing team (buyers, planners, technicians) to execute purchase orders and secure timely material availability.
• Manage supplier relationships, addressing order placement, volume changes, operational issues and invoicing.
• Develop and track inventory strategies to minimize slow‑moving and obsolete stock while maintaining product availability.
• Coordinate cross‑functional issue resolution with engineering, planning, R&D, quality and other stakeholders.
• Assess supplier capacity, identify gaps, create mitigation plans and monitor project progress.
• Drive process improvements using digital tools and supply‑chain analytics.
• Provide accurate data for budgeting cycles and meet financial targets.
• Support new product launches by ensuring material readiness for validation and ramp‑up.

Required profile

• BS in Business, Finance, Engineering, Logistics or related field; MBA a plus.
• 8‑10 years of experience in procurement, materials management or related supply‑chain functions.
• 3+ years of people‑leadership experience, preferably in the medical or MedTech industry.
• Demonstrated ability to apply IT solutions to optimize purchasing processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with procurement software and digital tools.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• CPIM (APICS) certification – preferred.
• CSCP (APICS) certification – preferred.
• Six Sigma Green Belt – preferred.
• Fluent English communication.
