Test Engineer – Electrical Test & PCB Design

About the role

We are looking for a Test Engineer to join Samtec’s High Data Rate (HDR) Cable Assembly Work Center in the Z Free Zone, Montecillos de Alajuela. The role focuses on electrical testing of cable assemblies, from designing test tooling to troubleshooting test systems on the production floor.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build test tooling and fixtures for first‑time build electrical testing of HDR cable products.
• Review PCB and fixture designs, provide feedback to designers, and create process documentation.
• Develop, qualify, and maintain test programs and scripts for low‑ and high‑speed electrical tests.
• Collaborate with SIG ATG to assemble, debug, and qualify new test systems.
• Support production by troubleshooting test equipment and performing failure analysis.
• Maintain the HDR product serialization system, including part‑number creation and configuration.
• Work with control, process, and manufacturing engineers on transfer and continuous‑improvement projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in PCB design and electrical test engineering.
• Advanced English proficiency.
• Ability to sit/stand for extended periods and no physical limitations affecting test work.

Required skills

• Python and C++ for serialization scripting.
• PCB design and layout expertise.
• SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of PCB manufacturing processes.
• Experience with LSET, HSET and signal‑integrity testing.
• Ability to read schematics, datasheets and troubleshoot to component level.
