Controls Design Engineer

About the role

Primary function will be related to designing and specifying electrical and pneumatic controls for automated machines globally, providing a competitive time‑to‑market for Samtec products. The role also supports panel building, issue resolution, upgrades and improvements for global operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design electrical wire schematics for custom automated equipment.
• Design electrical panel layouts for custom automated equipment.
• Draw electrical schematics using Eplan and maintain the Eplan parts database.
• Specify, test, and integrate purchased components into designs and generate BOMs and purchase orders.
• Verify motor sizing and perform upgrades or retrofits of obsolete machine controls.
• Provide troubleshooting support to global operations for controls‑related issues.
• Collaborate on automation building projects and manage project documentation.
• Assist with onboarding new teammates.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar position (or 2 years at Samtec).
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Advanced English proficiency.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electromechanical, mechatronic engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Required skills

• Eplan Electric P8 (design and database management).
• SolidWorks and AutoCAD (CAD tools).
• Knowledge of control relays, pneumatic solenoids, PLCs, servomotors, motion controllers and operator interfaces.
• Ability to generate bills of materials and purchase orders.
