Senior Controller – Hospitality Portfolio

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Controller to lead the financial operations for its hospitality‑focused client portfolio. You will partner with the Accounting Director to transform messy books into reliable, timely reporting for hotels, restaurants, and multi‑unit operators.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full month‑end close cycle for a defined set of clients, reconciling accounts and reviewing journal entries.
• Prepare accurate monthly P&L statements, cash‑flow summaries, and departmental reports tailored to hospitality operators.
• Manage complex payroll structures for tipped employees, multiple departments, and seasonal staff, ensuring all filings are complete and on time.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for day‑to‑day client inquiries, communicating clearly and setting expectations.
• Document workflows, build checklists and SOPs, and reduce reliance on institutional knowledge through process improvement.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in the hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants, or multi‑unit food & beverage).
• Strong attention to detail with a track record of delivering clean reconciliations.
• Clear written communication skills and the ability to know when to escalate issues.
• Proactive mindset – you identify problems and fix them without waiting for direction.

Required skills

• Solid command of GAAP and multi‑entity accounting.
• Experience with hospitality‑specific payroll processes.
• Familiarity with tools such as M3, QuickBooks, Restaurant365 or similar platforms.
