Sales & Occupancy Tax Analyst

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Sales & Occupancy Tax Analyst to own tax compliance for our hospitality and short‑term rental clients. You will translate reservation‑level data into accurate tax filings and ensure timely remittances, acting as the bridge between complex financial information and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, verify and file multi‑jurisdictional sales, occupancy and lodging tax returns on schedule.
• Calculate taxes from reservation data, including accommodation fares, cleaning fees and other taxable items.
• Reconcile transaction data across Property Management Systems, tax software reports and internal records to achieve 100 % accuracy.
• Maintain tax compliance calendars and manage timely remittances to avoid penalties.
• Serve as primary contact for state and local tax authorities, handling notices, audits and inquiries.
• Produce and improve structured tax reports for internal leadership and client use.
• Advise clients on aligning their operational setup with applicable tax requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in hospitality, lodging or short‑term rental tax compliance.
• Deep knowledge of short‑term rental and property‑management tax structures.
• Strong ownership, attention to detail and ability to meet recurring monthly deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with tax authorities and clients.

Required skills

• Experience with Property Management Systems such as Streamline or Guesty.
• Proficiency with tax automation tools like Avalara MyLodgeTax and ERP systems such as NetSuite.
• Advanced Excel skills for data reconciliation and analysis.
