Purchasing Manager

About the role

Abbott’s Electrophysiology division in Alajuela is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead all purchasing activities, supplier relationships, inventory control, and strategic supply management. The role supports both site‑specific and broader business objectives, ensuring reliable supply of raw materials, components, and services.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute short‑ and long‑term supply strategies to meet production and business goals.
• Manage Purchasing Price Variances (PPV) and lead strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Collaborate with supply chain, operations, commodity managers, and divisional stakeholders to ensure continuity of supply and cost competitiveness.
• Lead enterprise‑wide cost‑saving and operational‑excellence projects through cross‑functional teams.
• Assign work priorities for raw‑material supply, inventory management, inbound freight, and financial targets.
• Resolve complex supply challenges, monitor performance, and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with Abbott policies while developing organizational capability and succession plans.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in procurement or supply‑chain management.
• Ability to build organizational capability, succession plans, and training programs.
• Strong track record in managing suppliers, strategic partnerships, and material availability.
• Experience developing sourcing strategies, supplier risk‑mitigation plans, and long‑term supply agreements.
• Expertise in optimizing inventory investment while balancing service, risk, and financial goals.
