Learning Support Specialist – Middle & High School

About the role

The Learning Support Specialist is a key instructional and inclusion leader responsible for advancing a fully inclusive model of education for middle and high school students with mild to moderate exceptionalities. This position blends direct student support with strategic leadership to strengthen school‑wide practices such as Universal Design for Learning, Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support, Response to Intervention, and differentiated instruction.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and monitor individualized supports that promote access, belonging, and student agency.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, counselors, administrators, families, and external providers.
• Serve on Student Learning Profile (SLP) teams and coordinate transitions between school divisions.
• Lead professional‑learning sessions and develop sustainable systems, protocols, and inclusive practices.
• Use student data to monitor progress, inform decision‑making, and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education, Learning Support, or a related field; valid teaching certificate/license required.
• Minimum two years of experience supporting middle and/or high school students with mild to moderate exceptionalities.
• Demonstrated experience advancing inclusive practices (UDL, MTSS, RTI, differentiated instruction).
• Strong collaboration skills and experience working with teachers, counselors, administrators, families, and external providers.
• Ability to use data to monitor student progress and support continuous improvement.
• Excellent command of the English language.
