Lead Engineer - Substation SCADA

About the role

The Lead Engineer – Substation SCADA will design, program, install, and test automation systems that integrate multiple subsystems to satisfy operational and regulatory requirements for power‑utility and renewable‑energy clients.

Key responsibilities

• Create SCADA point lists, Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) programs, and Human‑Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
• Program, install, troubleshoot, test, and commission RTUs, Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs) and HMIs.
• Develop complete design packages for site network and SCADA communication architectures compliant with client and regulatory standards.
• Maintain positive client relationships with frequent internal and external interaction.
• Utilise technologies such as SEL‑RTAC, Novatech OrionLX+, web‑based GUIs (Inkscape, SEL Diagram Builder), Ignition, PuTTY, Wireshark, and SEL‑Quickset.
• Support special projects, assist colleagues, and adapt to changing priorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 7‑9+ years of relevant experience in SCADA and automation.
• Proficiency with communication protocols (DNP3, Modbus) and internet network architectures.
• Network design experience; Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNA) are a plus.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
• Ability to apply standard engineering techniques, develop specifications, and ensure quality.
• Experience mentoring junior staff and managing project schedules.
