Finance Director

About the role

The Finance Director leads the financial management and controllership for Country Day School in Alajuela, Costa Rica. This senior position ensures accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and alignment of financial activities with the school’s strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end close and deliver timely management accounts, financial statements and performance reports.
• Oversee statutory accounts in compliance with local GAAP, IFRS and Group policies.
• Manage all internal and external audit processes, including planning, documentation and follow‑up.
• Assess, design and strengthen financial and compliance controls to reduce risk.
• Prepare and review key financial reports (cash flow, KPIs, variance analysis) for operational and strategic decision‑making.
• Drive cost‑optimization initiatives and oversee vendor and contract management.
• Ensure tax compliance and effective working‑capital management.
• Maintain high standards of documentation, data quality and process discipline.

Required profile

• Senior finance professional with proven experience in financial management, budgeting and forecasting.
• Strong track record of leading audit, compliance and internal control functions.
• Ability to work closely with senior leadership and provide strategic financial insight.
• Experience in an international or educational environment is a plus.
