Data Governance Consultant

About the role

IBM Consulting is looking for a Data Governance Consultant to design and deliver data governance solutions for enterprise clients. Depending on the engagement, you will lead it as the primary governance consultant or own key workstreams within a larger program. You act as the bridge between governance strategy and platform implementation: assessing the current state, designing the target model and turning it into processes, catalog configuration and controls that client teams run themselves.

Key responsibilities

• Assess governance maturity, define the target operating model, framework, policies and standards, and build the roadmap and prioritization (CDEs, domains, use cases)
• Implement roles (owners, stewards, custodians), decision rights and RACI, facilitate workshops, and document procedures and standards
• Build the business glossary, onboard critical assets, document lineage and configure stewardship and certification workflows in Atlan, Collibra or similar
• Define data quality rules with the business, partner with engineers to implement them (Snowflake, dbt, Atlan DQ, Monte Carlo), and deliver scorecards and issue management
• Establish certified definitions and approval workflows for critical KPIs and reports
• Work with architects and engineers to embed governance controls and metadata into delivery pipelines and identify automation opportunities
• Drive adoption through stakeholder mapping, communications, steward onboarding, training and knowledge transfer
• Contribute reusable accelerators such as playbooks, templates and rule libraries

Required profile

• No education requirement stated
• Strong experience in data governance or data management, including at least one client or enterprise engagement where you designed the governance framework or operating model and led its implementation
• Proven experience facilitating workshops with business and technical stakeholders and designing communication, training and change plans that drove adoption
• Experience running data issue management processes, from triage and root cause analysis to remediation and closure

Required skills

• Hands-on configuration of at least one data catalog (Atlan, Collibra, Alation or Purview), including glossary, asset onboarding, lineage and stewardship workflows
• Data quality: defining rules with business stakeholders and delivering scorecards or dashboards
• Working SQL and partnering with data engineers to implement and automate data quality rules on cloud platforms (Snowflake preferred)
• Preferred: Atlan, Collibra or CDMP certification, or equivalent vendor certification; hands-on experience with data quality or observability tools (Monte Carlo, Atlan DQ, Soda, Great Expectations) or dbt; exposure to AI governance frameworks (NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001) or master data management initiatives
