Assistant Director of Engineering

About the role

The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing the engineering, maintenance and technical operations of Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. The role ensures safe, reliable and efficient operation of all hotel facilities while upholding the brand’s standards of quality, sustainability and guest service.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise the engineering and maintenance team, assigning daily tasks and providing technical guidance.
• Plan, monitor and execute preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance for HVAC, chillers, pumps, electrical, plumbing, water systems, pools, kitchen and laundry equipment.
• Conduct regular facility inspections, identify potential failures and recommend improvements to equipment reliability and efficiency.
• Manage departmental resources, spare parts, purchase orders and assist with budget preparation and cost control.
• Support renovation, upgrade and capital improvement projects, and collaborate with other hotel departments to minimise operational impact.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, fire and health standards, and participate in internal and external inspections.
• Assist in emergency preparedness, business continuity planning and performance reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or technical degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Industrial Maintenance, Facilities Management, Civil Engineering or related field.
• Professional experience in engineering, maintenance or facilities management, preferably in hotels, resorts or luxury properties.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage budgets and coordinate multi‑disciplinary projects.
