ASIC Principal Design Engineer (VLSI)

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring an ASIC Principal Design Engineer to design, analyze, develop and evaluate VLSI components and hardware systems. The role is hybrid, with an average of 2 days per week spent in an HPE office. It calls for deep technical expertise, technical leadership of project teams and mentoring of less experienced staff.

Key responsibilities

• Design, analyze, develop, modify and evaluate VLSI components and hardware systems, determining architecture and logic design and building physical implementations through multidimensional layouts of complex integrated circuits.
• Analyze designs to establish operating data, run experimental tests and evaluate results to enable prototype and production VLSI solutions.
• Direct support personnel in detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.
• Develop organization-wide architectures and methodologies for VLSI design across multiple platforms and organizations within the Global Business Unit.
• Contribute to defining industry standards and product features that become de facto standards.
• Review and evaluate designs and projects for compliance with technology and development guidelines, and advise executive leadership, outsourced partners and standards groups.
• Provide technical leadership and accountability for multiple project teams and engineers.
• Mentor less experienced staff and take part in selecting future technical leaders.
• Identify emerging VLSI technologies and new projects and programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• Typically 10+ years of experience in VLSI design, verification or implementation.
• History of innovation and technical leadership, with multiple patents, publications and technical presentations in VLSI or electronic/hardware component design and tools.

Required skills

• Electrical engineering fundamentals, VLSI principles, digital logic and computer architecture.
• VLSI design, integrated circuitry, architectures and algorithms.
• A programming and scripting language, a hardware description language, EDA tools and/or FPGA tools.
• Executive written and verbal communication in English and the local language.
